About Us

We're three veteran software developers, and amongst us have worked at Adobe, Apple, Ashton-Tate, Claris, Google, HP, Intuit, Macromedia and more. Several years ago, we created Writely together, which was acquired by Google in March 2006, becoming Google Docs.

We enjoy making complex software seem simple to users almost as much as we like arguing about what that means, and we're quite happy to be back together again. This time, we're making games. ;)

Sam Schillace

Sam accidentally became a director of engineering at Google, where he oversaw pretty much everything in Apps, including Gmail, Calendar, Sites, Blogger, Picasa and Google Reader. Before Writely, he did a bunch of other stuff, but I forget what. He occasionally writes something in his blog, and you can follow him on Twitter.

Steve Newman

Steve coded some serious backend things at Google, where I saw him have office-mates come and go without his noticing. He and Sam have worked together for over 20 years, and people often confuse them because of it. If you get stuck, just remember that Sam is the loud opinionated one and Steve is the quiet opinionated one. His serious backend things blog is Am I Stronger Yet?

Claudia Carpenter

Claudia's years at Google went by in a blur of Javascript and baby blue. She has been with Sam and Steve for only four companies so far, but says it feels like *forever*. She is, coincidentally, both the real brains of the operation and the author of this page.
